Last Friday, March 30, Providence Chorale members drove to Pomona Valley Mining Co. to perform at the annual college donor banquet. After warming up, students spent some time socializing with guests before dinner was served. Guests included donors, Providence faculty and staff, and Student Senate representatives.
After the guests finished dinner, the Chorale performed three songs led by Music Director Luana De Groot-Canty. When the guests finished applauding, the students returned to their seats to listen to the guest speaker. President Dr. Halvorson also spoke to the audience, reassuring listeners of Providence’s commitment to a Reformed education on the West Coast and informing guests about the possible changes that will come with the Covenant College merger. Halvorson addressed many questions and concerns regarding the changes that will take place at Providence and assured the donors that Providence will maintain its mission to provide a Christ-centered learning environment for students.
Many of the details of the pending merger have yet to be decided, but it was clear that the banquet was a valuable time of fellowship and building community. Students who attended the banquet enjoyed talking with donors and shared many of their experiences at college.
